Higher Financial Reform
If we want to make sense of higher finance
we have to separate the men from the boys
we need a hand on the nozzle someone menopausal
would know how to take away the toys
It's a simple little feature any 3rd grade teacher
already knows how to do
Boys and girls pay attention
Don't trust your pension
to someone younger than you.
Junior is a genius with computer algorhythms,
his hand on the financial throttle
He got As in all his courses, too bad the market forces
didn't operate just like his model
Now his bonus is depending on how well he is pretending
he knows why the market went down
So he will talk about liquidity really he knows diddly
but see how impressive it sounds.

Boys and Girls pay attention
Don't trust your pension
To someone younger than you
He might now think it through
And just like Alexander of Macedon,
he'll plunder your country and then move on
And leave a lot of wreckage there in his wake,
remember Alexander thought that he was great
So you might want a woman of a certain age,
someone who's encountered the hourly wage
You want to think again about ambitious young men
They don't always take the long view
Boys and Girls pay attention
Don't trust your pension
to someone younger than you

Keep Your Overhead Low
You say you want to make a living in the arts
Here's what it's all about
put more money in then you take back out
Call the shots do your soul a good turn
Just be sure you spend a little less than you earn
Be carefree, but don't be rash
as a general rule always pay cash
Do what you love all you gotta know
Keep your vision high and your over head low
You want to hear the song in your heart
you want space in your day time for your art
the magic in the moment, the angle of the light
let your vision soar, keep your costs in sight
Beware of credit, beware of debt
of owning things you haven't paid for yet
but make sure you lend be a real good friend
then no one has to spend
don't knock it till you try it
if you can borrow, why buy it
You will hear the song in your heart
you'll have space in your day
time for your art
so be careful with the leverage
the money making scheme
don't be stingy with your hopes and dreams
Let's review
if you have enough
do what you love
learn to love having less stuff
You can call the shots and do your soul a good turn
Just be sure you spend a little less than you earn
Do what you love
all you gotta know
Keep your vision high, your overhead low

Air Guitar
Air Guitar might have its charm
to me it's a waste of the hand and the arm
what feels good is the wood and the string
Take the summer go out to the shed
it'll save you money and clear your head
why not learn to play the real thing
A whole lot of fun, just a little bit hard
you don't have to leave your own backyard
anytime's the perfect time to start
keep you happy keep you on course
get you through your first divorce
mend your mind, help to heal your heart
Something real, learn to do it
a skill with some appeal to it
it just feels good the wood and the string
if you can find one for a pretty good price
a little beat up but it's still nice
pick it up and learn to pick and sing
The thrill of a skill in the hand and mind
the joy of losing track of time
the lost art of how to concentrate
memory in the muscle
muscle in the will
relief in the mind when it's finally still
learn guitar you won't need to meditate
Something real learn to do it
a skill with some appeal to it
Don't need oil or gas to make it go
Guitar is simple guitar is green
when the grid goes down it's one machine
that will not be dead metal by the road
So take the summer go out to the shed
it'll save you money and clear your head
it just feels good the wood and the string
air guitar might have its charm
to me it's a waste of the hand and arm
why not learn to play the real thing

The Horse King
Last night I saw the Horse King
when he was in his prime
carrying the day, leading the line
Long ago in the green of spring
I remember when he was the Horse King
When he was young I was young too
his legs were strong what they could do
All the flags would fly all the bells would ring
The sun would always rise for the Horse King
One morning in the field
the young stallions came around
they pushed him up against the fence
and then he went down
They left him there to get up and get home
The Horse King no more just old and all alone
For the pleasures of the world
we each pay a price
we fight the last battle we roll the final dice
Someday somewhere springtime comes twice
I will meet the Horse King in the fields of Paradise

Icarus
Icarus dreams but he cannot awake
the fragile wings his only escape
Here's what we'll do
Here's what we'll try
Throw yourself out there
and hope you fly
Icarus tries one more set of wings
the will to survive is a wondrous thing
In the hall of heroes brave and true
the story they tell is that Icarus flew
The Shining Heart,the hallowed ground
the melted wings, the long way down
On your brave leap to the sun
Will you fly for us you are Icarus
The curtain comes up
have you been here before
Waiting in the corridor
The chorus enters and sings through the night
Icarus flies into the light
Icarus comes to the end of his flight
in triumph the boy is gone from sight
the beating heart, the fragile shell
I don't believe that Icarus fell

The Angels In Rome
When I dream of angels mine are made of stone
they're way up high but they do not fly
they stand on the rooftops in Rome
They watch over their City
with cracked and broken wings
gravity bound, a little run down
like any true lasting thing.
In Paradise the stories say
nothing is faded or old
it's shiny and bright everything is alright
the streets made of silve and gold
The angels there look like nothing on earth
I have ever known
I prefer mine to have seen hard time
like the angels on the rooftops in Rome
Do you like forever
in your movies and your books
we went to Rome one summer
to see how forever looks
It looks worn out and tired
the heartbreak carved into the stone
If it's always been here
if it won't disappear
then it looks like the angels in Rome
I dream of angels
with cracked & broken wings
gravity bound, a little run down
but a true and lasting thing
When I dream of angels
they are made of stone
way up high, they do not fly,
they stand on the rooftops in Rome

Don't Walk Away From Love
There's a lot to be lost in this great wide world
Don't walk away from love
It might not look like you planned
your family might not understand
Don't walk away from love
We move around the wheel up and down how we feel
Don't walk away from love
we are darkness we are light
we don't always do all of it right
Don't walk away from love
<<
Life is often a mess, sometimes more sometimes less
Don't walk away from love
Of course there will be fears problems through the years
Don't walk away from love
When you have found it work everything around it
Don't walk away from love
Any fortune can waver do yourself a favor
Don't walk away from love

A Study of Religious Art
I'm at the age I must confess
where how I look undressed
is best left to your imagination
When I was young I didn't mind
now I find I'm less inclined
to submit to critical examination
Someone had to pose
for Michealangelo's
women on the Sistine ceiling
I looked at them again
when I heard they were all men
maybe that's what he found appealing
The hams on those gamine
they'd survive any famine
plenty of pulchritude
can you see where I am going
by the bodies they are showing
I'd make a lovely Renaissance nude
So I set myself a mission
Looked up Rafael and Titian
a different commission I suppose
If it's a nice altar piece
that goes right behind the priest
the people need to keep on their clothese
I'm sure someone can be trusted here
to say you're mal-adjusted dear
but look at where my song starts
maybe it's insanity
but I just went from vanity
to a study of religious art.

Would You Like To Meet The Voice Inside My Head
Would you like to meet the voice inside my head
maybe she could come to live with you instead
She's a real go-getter, she knows how you could do it better
Would you like to meet the voice inside my head
I am studying a book about bliss
It says life does not have to be like this
I will be prepared
I'll be here now when I get there
I am studying a book about bliss
If I do something, I like to do it right
so if I have to I'll do bliss All Night
Come on let's get it moving
we're supposed to be improving
If I do something I like to do it right
I don't know why life doesn't flow for me
I have to pay for what other's get for free
Would you like to meet the voice inside my head
Maybe she could come to live with you instead
The bossiest brain I've ever known
minds everyone's business but my own
Would you like to meet the voice inside my head
If you think it would be fun to always get things done
then you'd like to meet the voice inside my head

Be Outside
B. Bowler
If you're wondering what to do
Feeling happy, feeling blue
Be outside, be outside
Take a stroll, Take a hike
catch a fish, do what you like
Be outside, Be outside
There are wonders in a stream
rolling through a forest green
be outside, be outside
amid the trees or desert sage
there is fun for every age
Pack a picnic for a day
or plan a longer get-a-way
on a lake in a canoe
or stay on land
it's up to you
Just be outside
Take a breath of country air
there is magic everywhere
Let the colors of the day
wash all your cares away
be outside, be outside
be outside, be outside
